Event Details
Course introduction:
The aim of this lecture is to review the definition and management of rhythmic and periodic patterns that constitutes the ictal-interictal continuum (IIC). Through clinical cases and EEG examples, we will discuss the EEG features of the IIC that set it aside from electrographic SE, discuss the use and limitations of scalp EEG to detect potentially harmful discharges and alternative strategies, including imaging and the anti-seizure medication trial.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eSeminar the participants will be able to:
- To review the EEG definition of the IIC
- To acknowledge the association between the IIC and electrographic seizures and SE
- To review the evidence that some patterns on the IIC might associated with secondary brain injury and learn how to recognize them
- To discuss the pros and cons of treating the IIC
