Course introduction:
Epileptic Spasms – West Syndrome – Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome – EEG features, ictal semiology and epilepsy syndrome diagnosis
Accurate diagnosis of seizure type/s is particularly challenging in neonates and infants, essential together with electroencephalographic findings and clinical context for epilepsy syndrome diagnosis and guidance towards etiology, treatment choice and prognosis, even in the era of rapidly increasing knowledge in genetics.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar the participants will be able to:
- Recognize the different EEG patterns and the large semiology spectrum of epileptic spasms
- Understand the necessary recording techniques in this seizure type
- Understand the value of electro-clinical phenotyping for differential diagnosis and clinical management
- Know the criteria of the new ILAE 2022 epilepsy syndrome classification concerning West syndrome and Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome
This course is eligible for 1.0 CEC by ASET – The Neurodiagnostic Society
