This program will provide a review and update in key areas of psychosocial issues surrounding epilepsy. It will also address unique challenges/needs for specific populations with epilepsy. Emphasis will be placed on diagnosis, management, innovative as well as ethical dilemmas that have practical applications for neurologists, other clinicians, psychologists, social workers, and health care professionals.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This one-day live CME activity is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Allied Health Professionals, Psychologists, Social Workers, and other healthcare professionals who are interested in learning about the most current treatment modalities and best management practices, in order to improve patient care and health outcomes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants shall be able to:
- Recognize patients with PNES, proper referral for diagnosis and then treatment.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of psychiatric co-morbids, as well as corresponding treatment options.
- Analyze the data and recommendations that exist for transition of care and to understand their utility as well as practicality.
- Examine the implications of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) on pregnancy and contraception. Understanding of the effects of female hormones on epilepsy.
- Strategize on how to deal with ethical problems and dilemmas in clinical practice.
- Interpret the mechanism behind and utility of wearable seizure detection devices.
