Fiber optic (FO) technology was originally proposed in the 1960s for medical endoscopic purposes to visualize internal anatomical structures. In the past, they were used to carry information and revolutionize the world through telecommunication applications. Thousands of thin glass fibers successfully assembled in flexible bundles for imaging hidden areas of the human body were the first use of fiber optics in biomedical instrumentation.
