Blood pressure has diurnal changes that have relations with circadian rhythm. When an individual transits from wakefulness to NREM sleep and due to the activation of the autonomic parasympathetic nervous system, dramatic modifications in cardiorespiratory parameters take place. Blood pressure and other related vitals decline remarkably, which is known as the “Dipping” phenomena. However during REM period, and due to the activation of the sympathetic autonomic nervous system, there will be a rise in blood pressure and other related vitals.
