Dizziness can emerge from a dysfunction of the vestibular system, which consists of two main parts: the semicircular canal system and the otolithic system. If tests were already developed to assess the semicircular canal system (e.g electronystagmography and rotational tests), clinical investigation of the otolithic system became possible in 1992 thanks to Colebatch et al. and to the development of VEMP.
