Beginner Neuromuscular Ultrasound Course

This two-day course will focus on foundational scanning techniques, clinical decision-making, and integrating ultrasound findings into patient evaluation, reporting, and management. Participants will gain practical skills for evaluating peripheral nerve disorders, entrapment neuropathies, and other neuromuscular conditions.

Course Objectives

  • Understand and explain basic ultrasound physics and image optimization techniques.
  • Perform a standardized NMUS examination of the median nerve.
  • Perform a standardized NMUS examination of the ulnar nerve.
  • Recognize common sonographic findings associated with median and ulnar neuropathies.
  • Document findings using a structured ultrasound report.
  • Apply appropriate coding and billing principles for NMUS.
  • Demonstrate beginning competency with the radial and common peroneal nerves.
  • Integrate basic NMUS into routine neuromuscular practice.

Intended Audience

Physicians and technologists who would like to enhance/review ultrasound techniques and get hands-on experience in performing some of the common and uncommon scanning techniques.
