Recognizing and diagnosing neonatal seizures is challenging in neonates. Conventional EEG is not always available 24/7 in the NICU, as well as expert Neurologist interpretation. aEEG can be a useful bedside adjunct tool in helping to detect neonatal seizure activity, along with seizure detection and is easily utilized and interpreted at the bedside. This eSeminar will discuss the benefits of aEEG Monitoring in recognizing neonatal seizures and will include case study discussions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the epidemiology of neonatal seizures
  • Discuss the challenges when diagnosing neonatal seizures
  • Describe seizure patterns in the aEEG trace and the importance of examining the cEEG trace.
  •  Discuss the limitations of aEEG in Neonatal Seizure detection.
