Dr. Mark Quigg will discuss the principles and recording techniques of evoked potentials and their utility in clinical medicine. This lecture will include Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEPs), Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEPs) and Visual Evoked Potentials (VEPs) with a review of the generators, waveform recognition and normal values. The clinical significance of normal and abnormal findings of evoked potential studies will also be presented.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To learn the principles of signal averaging and signal to noise limitations of EPs
  2. To review the anatomy, techniques, normal findings, and typical abnormal findings / clinical applications of the following clinical EPs:
    • visual flash and pattern-reversal
    • brainstem auditory
    • somatosensory
