The lecture will cover the role of electrodiagnostic testing and ultrasound imaging in the management of focal neuropathies beginning with consideration of why we are performing these tests in the first place. We will explore what value the results have in patient management and how the two tests can provide complementary information when used together as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each test type. We will pay particular attention to the commonest focal nerve problems, CTS and ulnar neuropathy and how to provide reports in a form which is useful to referring clinicians.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the reasons for using diagnostic tests
  • To understand how test results can influence treatment decisions
  • To understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of EDX and NMUS
