In this eSeminar we will discuss MUNIX, a novel motor unit number estimation technique which has gained a lot of attention over the past decade especially as a biomarker and outcome measure for ALS clinical trials. It is based on CMAP recordings as performed with routine motor NCS. While the CMAP does not allow to dissect loss of motor neurons from reinnervation MUNIX is able to do so. Emphasis will be put on how a standardized approach will result in high quality recordings suitable to track motor unit loss over time. In addition the pitfalls, advantages and disadvantages of MUNIX compared to other quantitative MUNE techniques will be discussed.
