Advances continue in the genetics and other putative causes of ALS/MND at a remarkable rate, including increasingly more targeted treatment trials. Despite the remarkable progress in these areas, the core supportive management and use of palliative care remains relatively unchanged. This talk will focus on the basic principles in supportive management starting with the “breaking the news” session to integrating the ALS/MND patient into a multi-disciplinary program where they find they can feel physically and psychologically comfortable. Palliative Care is an important component of management and essentially begins when the diagnosis is made.
Course objectives:
