Natus POC-EEG Solution with Doctor and Patient

About Course

This course provides a comprehensive overview of nonconvulsive seizures, a frequently underrecognized form of seizure activity characterized by minimal or absent motor manifestations. Participants will explore the clinical features, underlying pathophysiology, and common etiologies of nonconvulsive seizures, with particular emphasis on their presentation in hospitalized and critically ill patients. The course highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by subtle or nonspecific symptoms such as altered mental status, confusion, or behavioral changes, and underscores the essential role of EEG monitoring in accurate identification.

At the end of this series, the healthcare professional will be able to:

  • Define nonconvulsive seizures (NCS) and distinguish between convulsive seizures and other causes of altered mental status.
  • Explain the role of EEG monitoring in the detection and diagnosis of nonconvulsive seizures and nonconvulsive status epilepticus
  • Identify patient populations and clinical settings at increased risk for nonconvulsive seizures, particularly in hospitalized and critically ill individuals
  • Describe evidence-based approaches to management and the potential consequences of delayed or missed diagnosis.
  • Identify the nursing considerations for the disease states where nonconvulsive seizures and status epilepticus occur
