Cerebrovascular reactivity is not associated with therapeutic intensity in adult traumatic brain injury: a CENTER-TBI analysis

Course introduction:
Although Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) are a rare cause of epilepsy, seizures are a common presentation in these disorders, frequently refractory to conventional anti-seizure medication with the need to initiate specific treatments based on vitamins or dietary modifications or provision of alternative substrates (to bypass a block). Certain distinctive electro-clinical features might suggest an underlying IEM and even point towards the etiology. Even though biochemical and genetic tests will confirm the definitive diagnosis, EEG has the great advantage to be rapidly available, before the results of these tests. In this eSeminar, cases will be presented illustrating theses distinctive electro-clinical features that may help the clinician to establish an appropriate diagnosis allowing a prompt and specific treatment in order to improve outcome.

At the conclusion of this eSeminar the participants will be able to:

• Recognize distinctive seizure types and EEG patterns in Inborn Errors of Metabolism
• Understand the value of electro-clinical aspects for early differential diagnosis of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and clinical management

Das eSeminar richtet sich an Anfänger und Kolleginnen & Kollegen mit Erfahrung in der Anwendung des neuromusulären Ultraschalls.

Die Darstellung peripherer Nerven mit hochauflösendem Ultraschall gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung in der Diagnostik und Therapie der Erkrankungen peripherer Nerven und Muskeln. Diese Methode liefert dem behandelnden Arzt morphologische Zusatzinformationen über Läsionsart, -höhe und Verteilung. Sie ist somit eine sinnvolle Ergänzung zur elektrophysiologischen Diagnostik und ersetzt diese nicht. Die Kurseinheiten stellen Ihnen typische Anwendungsgebiete und pathologische Befunde vor.

Lernziele der Veranstaltung:

• • Einblick in die sonographische Darstellung peripherer Nerven als morphologische Zusatzinformation in Ergänzung zur Elektrophysiologie
  • Darstellung des Zusatznutzens dieser Methode in Ergänzung zur Elektrophysiologie
