This 2-day Advanced EEG course conducted by Dr Lawrence Hirsch and Rebecca Khozein from Yale University will focus on the applications and technical considerations of EEG in various clinical settings including Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and continuous EEG (cEEG) monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This course is intended for physicians, neurophysiologists, EEG technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals looking to enhance their knowledge of current EEG applications in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

Lawrence J. Hirsch, M.D. is Professor of Neurology, Chief of the Division of Epilepsy and EEG, and Co-Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, all at Yale University. He has held leadership positions in the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS), American Epilepsy Society, American Academy of Neurology, and the Epilepsy Foundation, and is lead author of the 2012 and 2021 ACNS guidelines on critical care EEG terminology. He is founder and former chair of the Critical Care EEG Monitoring Research Consortium, which now includes more than 50 centers, and co-chair of the medical advisory board of the NORSE Institute. He has been an active researcher throughout his career, having published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and more than 100 reviews, editorials or book chapters on topics including status epilepticus, all aspects of EEG including intracranial recordings and brain monitoring in the critically ill, brain stimulation, epilepsy surgery, seizure clusters, rescue medications, sudden death in epilepsy (SUDEP), and anti-seizure medication use. He has won multiple teaching awards and is co-author of the first-ever atlas on EEG in critical care.

This includes Yale Comprehensive Epilepsy Center’s adult and pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) accredited at the highest level (Level IV) by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Rebecca has extensive experience spanning over 35 years in research/clinical neurophysiology, integrative, and sleep medicine and holds Board Certifications in EEG, EP, NCS, PSG and a greenbelt certification in Lean/Six Sigma. Prof. Stalberg is a Professor Emeritus at the Uppsala University where he has spent his lifetime to learning, teaching, research and patient care. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to electrodiagnostic medicine. He pioneered the technique of single fiber EMG, and also other methods of quantitative analysis. He has promoted quantitative analysis and tele-medicine. He has trained many luminaries in this field. He has published over 450 articles, written chapters in many text books, and co- authored the book ‘Single Fiber EMG’. He has lectured in many countries and conferences where he has been showered with recognition and awards. Among them, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine gave him the “Distinguished Researcher Award” and “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

With over 30 years of experience, Sanjeev is an award winning author, editor and reviewer, researcher, instrument design engineer, teacher, and clinical expert in the EMG field. He has delivered lectures, workshops and seminars in over 25 countries at universities, hospitals and EMG conferences. As an editor, Sanjeev started the “EMG on DVD” educational series. In collaboration with other clinicians, he developed Motor Unit Number Index (MUNIX) along with Multi-Motor unit Analysis (MMA) and Turns & Amplitude (TA) methods available on Natus EMG systems. His primary research interest is in Automatic analysis of EMG signals, Modeling EMG signals and Technical aspects of EMG waveforms. Sanjeev is currently a Senior Consultant at Natus Medical. Sanjeev is also Adjunct Professor of Neurology at Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. William S. David is Chief of the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine and Director of the EMG Laboratory and Neuromuscular Diagnostic Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. His research, clinical activities and educational/administrative pursuits have centered on his subspecialty interests of neuromuscular medicine and clinical neurophysiology (EMG), with a particular focus on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). At MGH, he is an active participant in the ALS clinic and directs the Neuromuscular Diagnostic Center, which encompasses the EMG laboratory, the neuromuscular clinics, the autonomic laboratory and a botulinum toxin program for the treatment for dystonia and spasticity. Dr. David is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), and serves on the Executive for the Neuromuscular Study Group (NMSG) as well as in the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association (AMA). He is the Neuromuscular Section Editor for the Journal Practical Neurology.

This course is designed for biomedical engineers who are responsible for maintaining and servicing the Synergy EDX systems.

This course emphasizes system operation, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting problems to the module level. Descriptions of each module include functional blocks, signal flow
and troubleshooting techniques. Time is structured for hands-on experience. On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• State the function of each system module.
• Use diagnostic aids to troubleshoot and prove the integrity of the system
• Isolate system failures to the module level
• Perform a preventative maintenance check.

With over 30 years of experience, Sanjeev is an award winning author, editor and reviewer, researcher, instrument design engineer, teacher, and clinical expert in the EMG field. He has delivered lectures, workshops and seminars in over 25 countries at universities, hospitals and EMG conferences. As an editor, Sanjeev started the “EMG on DVD” educational series. In collaboration with other clinicians, he developed Motor Unit Number Index (MUNIX) along with Multi-Motor unit Analysis (MMA) and Turns & Amplitude (TA) methods available on Natus EMG systems. His primary research interest is in Automatic analysis of EMG signals, Modeling EMG signals and Technical aspects of EMG waveforms. Sanjeev is currently a Senior Consultant at Natus Medical. Sanjeev is also Adjunct Professor of Neurology at Medical College of Wisconsin.
