Course introduction:
Pressure reactivity index (PRx) is a form of cerebral autoregulation that looks at moving correlation coefficients of intracranial pressure and mean arterial pressure. Average PRx values have been associated with clinical outcome in numerous pathologies including aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this discussion, we offer methods on how continuous PRx monitoring may aid in prognostication in poor-grade, comatose subarachnoid hemorrhage patients and help evaluate for vasospasm.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eSeminar the participants will be able to:
- Understand the concept of pressure reactivity index
- Understand the concept of optimized cerebral perfusion pressure and explore baseline supporting studies
- Evaluate pitfalls and benefits of using pressure reactivity index in prognostication for poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
This course is approved for a total of 1.0 CEC hour approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Course introduction:
The lecture will cover the role of electrodiagnostic testing and ultrasound imaging in the management of focal neuropathies beginning with consideration of why we are performing these tests in the first place. We will explore what value the results have in patient management and how the two tests can provide complementary information when used together as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each test type. We will pay particular attention to the commonest focal nerve problems, CTS and ulnar neuropathy and how to provide reports in a form which is useful to referring clinicians.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eSeminar the participants will be able to:
- To understand the reasons for using ‘diagnostic’ tests
- To understand how test results can influence treatment decisions
- To understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of EDX and NMUS

Dr. Jeremy Bland qualified from Manchester University in 1981 and trained in clinical neurophysiology in the West Midlands before taking up a post as consultant in clinical neurophysiology at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital and the Regional Neuroscience Centre in London in 1989. Since 2006 he has run a clinic dedicated to treating patients with carpal tunnel syndrome as part of a cooperative, multidisciplinary care pathway spanning primary and secondary care. He has also developed an interest in high resolution ultrasound imaging of peripheral nerve disease. Current research projects in the field of carpal tunnel syndrome include studies of the long term outcome of serial steroid injection and the role of amyloidosis in causation in the elderly. He also has a wider interest in other entrapment neuropathies and their assessment using neurophysiological and ultrasound techniques. He has lectured extensively on these topics, most recently at meetings of the BSCN, BPNS, ISPNI and AANEM and received the AANEM ‘distinguished researcher’ award in 2021. He is currently the national speciality advisor for clinical neurophysiology to NHS England.

Holly Wirth is a tenured nurse leader and educator. In her current role, she leads the educational programs for the neuroscience service line at Inova Health System in Northern Virginia. Throughout her twelve years at Inova, Holly has been dedicated to advancing the care of stroke, neurosurgical, and epilepsy patients. Holly has spoken locally and nationally on nursing approaches to epilepsy in acute care and specialized epilepsy monitoring units. Additionally, Holly is an adjunct professor at Shenandoah University in the accelerated BSN program.

Maureen Carroll is the Online Education Learning and Development Manager for ASET-The Neurodiagnostic Society. In this role she is responsible for creating educational content and managing ASET’s learning management system, which supports over two thousand learners. She also works per diem at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown Pennsylvania. Maureen is a multi-credentialed technologist with over 30 years’ experience in Neurodiagnostics (ND). She holds registry credentials in EEG, Evoked Potentials, Polysomnography, and Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring and is also an ASET Fellow. Her experience includes presentations at meetings, participation as a national board examiner, and appointments on education-related committees and task forces. Ms. Carroll was instrumental in developing the first nationally recognized and accredited online neurodiagnostic program. She was also selected twice to represent ASET by participating in the Coalition of Allied Health Leadership Conference, where she joined 30 other health professionals from across the U.S. in a national effort to advance allied health initiatives. This conference was supported by a grant from the Bureau of Health Professions, Department of Health and Human Services and sponsored by the Association of Schools of Allied Health, the Health Professions Network, and the National Network of Health Career Programs in Two-Year Colleges.
