Please join us for this highly educational eSeminar presented by Maureen Carroll, BS, R. EEG/EP T., RPSGT, CNIM, FASET, ASET Online Learning and Development Manager and Holly Wirth, DNP, RN, NE-BC, CNE, SCRN, Clinical Nurse Educator from Inova Health System. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding about the Certificate Program for the Seizure and Epilepsy Healthcare Professional and the AANN Certificate Program for the Seizure and Epilepsy Healthcare Professional. Additionally, learners will recognize the relevance of professional development activities within their respective roles, learn about other available resources, and appreciate the impact of skill training on their clinical practice and patient care.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eSeminar the participants will be able to:
- Explain the key responsibilities and roles of Neurodiagnostic Technologists and Registered Nurses in the diagnosis and management of seizures and epilepsy.
- Highlight the role of Neurodiagnostic Technologists and Registered Nurses within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Describe additional resources related to National Competency Skill Standards for Performing EEG and Long-Term Monitoring and job descriptions developed by the Qualified Personnel Workforce.
- Discuss the benefits of the AANN Certificate Program for the Seizure and Epilepsy Healthcare Professional in fostering the best evidence-based practice for Registered Nurses.
This course is approved for 1.0 hour of CEC by ASET – The Neurodiagnostic Society and 1.0 hour of CEC by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Holly Wirth

Holly Wirth is a tenured nurse leader and educator. In her current role, she leads the educational programs for the neuroscience service line at Inova Health System in Northern Virginia. Throughout her twelve years at Inova, Holly has been dedicated to advancing the care of stroke, neurosurgical, and epilepsy patients. Holly has spoken locally and nationally on nursing approaches to epilepsy in acute care and specialized epilepsy monitoring units. Additionally, Holly is an adjunct professor at Shenandoah University in the accelerated BSN program.

Maureen Carroll is the Online Education Learning and Development Manager for ASET-The Neurodiagnostic Society. In this role she is responsible for creating educational content and managing ASET’s learning management system, which supports over two thousand learners. She also works per diem at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown Pennsylvania. Maureen is a multi-credentialed technologist with over 30 years’ experience in Neurodiagnostics (ND). She holds registry credentials in EEG, Evoked Potentials, Polysomnography, and Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring and is also an ASET Fellow. Her experience includes presentations at meetings, participation as a national board examiner, and appointments on education-related committees and task forces. Ms. Carroll was instrumental in developing the first nationally recognized and accredited online neurodiagnostic program. She was also selected twice to represent ASET by participating in the Coalition of Allied Health Leadership Conference, where she joined 30 other health professionals from across the U.S. in a national effort to advance allied health initiatives. This conference was supported by a grant from the Bureau of Health Professions, Department of Health and Human Services and sponsored by the Association of Schools of Allied Health, the Health Professions Network, and the National Network of Health Career Programs in Two-Year Colleges.
