Course introduction:
This course, presented by Dr. Paulette Smart-Mackey, aims to help EMG /NCS professionals enhance their data collection, interpretation, and report generation skills. A presentation of case reports will allow attendees to analyze nerve conduction study and needle electromyogram data and review the various components of a comprehensive EMG report. The information discussed will help formulate accurate EMG diagnoses and communicate meaningful messages to the referring physician and their patients.

Course Objectives:

  • To review the purpose and components of the EMG report.
  • To discuss ways to simplify and generate high-quality EMG reports.
  • To review the accuracy, design, and pitfalls of EMG/NCS data interpretation.
  • To discuss ways to communicate meaningful messages to those who read EMG reports.

CE Credits:
This course is valid for 1.0 CEC approved by AAET (American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists)

    Dr. Paulette Smart-Mackey

    Board Certified Electromyographer

    Dr. Paulette Smart- Mackey received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1992 from Pace University, in Pleasantville, New York, with a minor in biology and mathematics. She earned her medical degree from The School of Medicine and Biomedical Science in Buffalo New York and completed her residency training in physical medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University.
    Upon completion of her residency training, Dr. Smart-Mackey worked as a physiatrist in private practice with The Rehabilitation Physicians of Georgia, in Atlanta, and later joined the Rehabilitation Medica Group in Orlando. She now works as an independent practitioner under the service name, Paulette A Smart MD PA. Her practice provides professional electrodiagnostic services to local physician groups.

    Dr. Smart-Mackey has Board certification from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. She has had membership in several national and local organizations over the years, including current active membership in the Florida Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Central Florida Medical Society. She has a passion for student and patient education and the use of nutrition as a tool in the nerve recovery process.
