Event Details

Course introduction:
Please join us for this ON-DEMAND event of a previously broadcast eSeminar presented by Dr. Khan from the Center for Epilepsy at Ochsner Neurosciences Institute. Evaluating patients in the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) is essential for the diagnosis of repetitive stereotypical neurological events (commonly referred to as “spells”), characterization of electrographic seizures, and as part of the presurgical work up for epilepsy as it provides electroclinical correlation of events and direct patient care. This program is aimed at understanding the video EEG and other data elements of the EMU study, as well as the resultant diagnostic yield.

Course Objectives:

    • Identify the nature of data collected in the epilepsy monitoring unit
    • Understand the role and limitations of video EEG in the diagnosis of paroxysmal neurological events
    • Discuss common presentations of seizures and neurological events in the epilepsy monitoring unit
